Baack again
with wonderous adventures from the land of Austria. This time we had our last
trip with the good people of ESN. This week we had a tour of the Southern
Styrian wine fields and a tour of a winery. Our trip took us first to a lookout
tower on one of the hills in the area. From there we could look into the
distance for the rolling green hills mixed in with the couple houses and plenty
of wine fields.

Lookout tower was scary to get up |

I don't appreciate heights so i did not go close to the edge |

From the
fields, we moved on a bus to our winery tour of a local Regele winery. We got a
tour of the facilities by the son of the owner. Again, like in our trip to
Maribor post, I’m not a huge wine guy and Anne doesn’t drink at all, but still
it was enjoyable to see the process and the equipment used. Still the winery
was little lacklustre compared to the dark and ominous cellars of the winery in
Maribor. After the tour we got to the tasting. This was interesting as we got
to taste something like nine different wines and as you can imagine spirits
were pretty high after that. For something like three hours we just socialized
and tasted the new wines, before we jumped back on the bus and headed for
dinner. The wines were not that great at least for my taste so I did not buy
any from the shop of the winery.

Let's get tasting |
Following
the wine tasting we moved to our dinner location, a country restaurant in the
wine fields. This is the part I am little disappointed in, as we were promised
a dinner in the trip description but in the end, we got a plate of tapas style
sausages and veggies. This seemed quite little for a full day of going around. The
food was good, but I can’t help but to compare this to our Maribor trip where
we had a three course meal and a winery tour as well for pretty much the same
price. It was a little annoyance, but after we got back, we went to a bar to
get some burgers and watch the Champions league final.

For late night beer and burger and football. Full day, but a good day |
