Football everybody. Witnessing Juventus’s Italian dominance

Greetings people. There it is. The reason why we wanted to come to Turin, of course it is football. When our family decided that we would visit Italy I wanted to start planning for chances to see some football and in the current state of football in Italy, Turin and Juventus were the only option to go with. I don’t mean that in a bad way as I do like plenty of Italian teams and have been to a couple of Italian league games in the past. Still, Juventus is the big dog in the Italian yard of football and cemented that last summer by adding a player named Cristiano Ronaldo.

First sight of the stadium

Gotta have a pregame beer

I have been to many games of football and my tip to going to these games is to get there early. Making the day pretty much just about the game and being around the stadium is my usual plan. We did this last summer in the World Cup games we attended, and I was happy with it. This time we headed to the stadium five hours before the game. This gave us time to get some lunch before the game and to just wonder the area next to the stadium. This included visiting the Juventus fan store and getting some ice cream from the stores next to the stadium. Then getting inside the actual stadium two hours before the game. This gives a chance to use the restrooms and get snacks before the place is fully packed and listen to some pregame interviews and see the players warmup. There also is good time to take pictures and just admire the large stadium - and Juventus has a great, modern stadium built in 2011.

Both ready for the game

The game was Juventus-Fiorentina for the Italian Serie A league. The setup for the game was that if Juventus wins, they will win the league title even with couple of games still to go. Fiorentina was somewhere in the middle of the league table with not too much on the line for the game. Before the game the thought was that Juventus would pretty much walk over Fiorentina, but the away team was not having none of that and managed to score the first goal in the first couple of minutes. Juventus played very arrogantly and gave up a lot of counter attacks to Fiorentina, but they could not convert them into more goals. Near the end of the first half Juventus managed to tie from a corner kick. In the second half Juventus picked up the game and managed to score their second making the game 2-1. They played a quick passing combination for Cristiano Ronaldo on the side and he fired a hard-low cross that deflected off a defender into the goal. Juventus managed to defend their lead to the end, and they were declared champions for the eighth time in a row.

The game was great fun and a pleasure. From there we headed home and grabbed some kebab for a late evening snack. It was fun that the skies were clear, and we could finally see all the way to the Alps. This was the last evening in the pleasant Turin-part of our trip.
