Back again
folks. I want to mention first that in April we will be traveling quite a bit,
so the posts might come in blocks, or whenever I have time to write them.
Especially around Easter we will be traveling for a few weeks but then I should
have soo much to blog about.
Anyway as I
mentioned in my last post that I had my parents visiting me from Oulu, Finland.
It is always fun when family or friends have the time and effort to come and
visit, it’s nice to get a little check on things back home and to just see
family. My parents were here for a couple of days and we got to show the city
of Graz to them. Many of the sights are familiar from earlier posts, but we
always find some new angles for pictures and new things behind every corner. Also,
it gave a reason to go eat out every evening when we didn’t have to pay for
everything đ. They also brought with them some
treats from home like candy and chocolate bars. Sorry to say, but those they do
better back home in Finland.

On Saturday
we went to the ruins of an old castle in Gösting which is a part of Graz. We
passed there when we were heading to the Schwarzenegger museum in February and
it seemed interesting, so we kept it in mind. Since the weather was nice on
that weekend, we decided to take the hike up to the castle ruins. The old fort
was set up in the middle ages but left in ruins after a “lightning bolt” hit
the ammunition storage some time in the 1800s, or something. There wasn’t too
much info on the history of the place, but that is as much as I remember from
the little that was stated there. I’ve heard that lightning bolt story before.
Back home in Oulu it’s the same story told about how our castle was destroyed,
when it was bombed to the ground by the Brits or something. Nevertheless, the
Gösting castle is mostly in ruins nowadays, but the views are great. There was
a small café at the top to get some refreshments after climbing close to an
hour. From there we just enjoyed the sun and made a small detour to check an
old chapel dedicated to victims of cholera. The view from the mountain was
great, especially towards Graz, where the Schlossberg looked so small. It is
really starting to turn into spring here. We’ll see how green it is in the next
post. Also thank you for visiting, mom and dad.
