Back for
the second part of Vienna adventures. So, in Vienna for the first time we had
booked an Airbnb apartment where we stayed at other people’s house, instead of
our usual way of having the whole apartment for ourselves. This experiment
worked out well as our hosts were really welcoming and communicated well in
English. Hopefully this encourages us to stay at other people’s places too in
the future as it is cheaper. Anyway, on with the show.
Vienna is positioned on the shores of the Danube river and we wanted to go check it out. The city centre is a few kilometres from the river, so there weren’t too many sights to visit, but we did find one cool church and a cafĂ© by the river to have our morning coffee and juice. The church was massive and impressive from the outside. One little detail that I enjoyed was that the church had a large mural, which included Jesus, angels and all the usual churchy stuff, but in the bottom corner of the painting was picture of the church.

It was a cloudy day by the river. On the other side some more modern buildings |

This church was a lot larger and had more mass than others usually |

Some coffee to kick start the day |
From there we headed to a carnival area
called Prater. It was a rather cloudy day, but still fun to roam the streets
and check the carnival rides. We did ride one roller coaster and the main
Ferris Wheel, Riesenrad. From the wheel we got a nice view of Vienna even though
it started to rain during our spin. Still an enjoyable place, and little
different to the usual museums and old buildings formula that we often do.

Before the Riesenrad ride there was an exhibition on history of Vienna. |

Nice selection of hot chocolates |
Since it
started to rain, we headed for some hot chocolate at one of the fancy coffee
houses in Vienna. It was nice and Anne’s hot chocolate had some Pistachio sauce
on it and that made it really nice. After that we slowly made our way to some
dinner. We had booked a table at a Mexican place for a full dinner to celebrate
Friday. I’m a huge fanatic of Mexican food so nachos, fajitas, churros and
tequila were riiight up my alley. After that a slow walk back to the apartment
while admiring Vienna in the darkening night.

Always nice to end on some churros |
